More than a cabinet swap

Replacing a vanity looks simple: unscrew the old one, set the new one, reconnect the sink. In practice, the new cabinet is rarely the same size or depth, the drain and supply lines don't line up with its drawers, the old tile or flooring stops short of the new footprint, and the lighting and outlets were placed for a mirror that's no longer there.

We plan vanity projects as a small part of the room, not a piece of furniture. That can be a standalone upgrade in a hall bathroom or part of a complete bathroom remodel.

A new vanity goes in before the wall above is closed up and the light is hung, so the fixture lines up with the mirror.

Sizes

Common vanity widths and where they fit

WidthTypical useNotes
24 inPowder rooms, very small bathsSingle sink, limited counter; a wall-hung model keeps the floor visible
30 inCompact hall bathsA small drawer bank beside the sink becomes possible
36 inStandard hall and guest bathsGood balance of counter and storage
48 inLarger hall baths, smaller primary bathsGenerous single sink, or a tight double
60 inPrimary bathsDouble sinks with modest counter between
72 inLarger primary bathsDouble sinks with real counter space and storage

Depth matters too, especially in narrow rooms where a shallower cabinet keeps the walkway clear. Our vanity sizing guide covers clearances, heights and sink spacing in more detail.

Style

Floating or floor-standing

Wall-hung (floating) vanities leave the floor visible, which makes a small bathroom feel larger and makes mopping easy. They need solid blocking in the wall and a plan for the plumbing, which is fully exposed underneath unless it's tidied up.

Floor-standing vanities offer more storage and hide plumbing completely. Furniture-style pieces on legs sit between the two.

Tops

Countertops and sinks

Quartz
Engineered stone that doesn't need sealing and resists staining. A practical favorite for bathrooms.
Natural stone
Marble and granite are beautiful but porous to varying degrees; marble in particular etches from some cleaners and cosmetics.
Solid surface
Seamless tops with integrated sinks, easy to clean and repairable.
Sinks
Undermount, integrated or vessel. Undermount is easiest to wipe clean; vessels add height, so the cabinet may need to be lower.

Humidity

Choosing a vanity that lasts in a Florida bathroom

A vanity sits in warm, damp air every day and gets splashed at the toe kick every time someone steps out of the shower. Cabinet construction decides how it ages. Cheap particleboard swells when water reaches an unsealed edge, and the damage can't really be repaired.

  • Plywood or moisture-resistant boxes, especially for the base and sink cabinet
  • Well-sealed finishes on all faces, including the insides and cut edges
  • A good caulk line at the backsplash and floor
  • An exhaust fan that clears steam quickly, so the cabinet isn't sitting in it

What we handle

A vanity installation, start to finish

  1. Measure and choose

We measure the wall, check the plumbing and door swings, and help you narrow down stock, semi-custom or custom options.

  2. Remove the old vanity

Top, sink, cabinet and mirror come out. We look for any leak damage behind and under.

  3. Adjust services

Drain and supplies moved to suit the new sinks and drawers, outlets and lighting repositioned for the new mirror.

  4. Patch and prepare

Wall repairs, blocking for wall-hung units, and flooring fills where the old footprint was smaller.

  5. Install and connect

Cabinet, top, sinks, faucets, backsplash, mirror and lighting.

Vanity questions

Can I buy my own vanity and have you install it?

Often, yes. Let us know the model before you order so we can check dimensions, plumbing layout and wall construction. Delivery timing and any damage on arrival should be sorted out with the seller before installation day.

What height should a vanity be?

Many modern vanities are around counter height, taller than older bathroom cabinets. Vessel sinks add height, so they're usually paired with a lower cabinet. We'll suggest a height based on who uses the bathroom most.

Will the flooring need to change?

Only if the new vanity's footprint is different. A narrower or wall-hung vanity may reveal unfinished floor that was under the old cabinet. We check this before you commit.
